Saffron: The gold of the Amazigh Mountains ⵜⴰⵣⵉⵏⵜ ⵏ ⵓⴳⵔⵉⴳ

There are ingredients not only meant to perfume the world… but to preserve a memory. Saffron, or tazintin Tamazight, is one of those rare treasures harvested with the same reverence as a family secret. In the villages of the High Atlas Mountains, dawn heralds the beginning of the ritual: women and elders go out before sunrise, picking the crocus flowers one by one, so that their petals remain closed and preserve all their richness. A silent, almost sacred harvest—a gesture passed down through generations.

"Saffron sustains us, but above all, it reminds us of where we come from."
Tayri, producer in Taliouine

A legacy rooted in the land

Harvest at the start of the day — preserving the delicacy of the flowers. In Amazigh culture, the azzāl(the hearth) is the center of everything. Saffron is present in shared dishes, in soothing and digestive remedies, and during significant moments: births, celebrations, and reunions. Tradition and science converge: crocin andsafranal contributeto emotional balance, digestive support, and cardiovascular comfort. What our ancestors passed down through faith, we are rediscovering today through research.

Our interpretation: Ajdir ⴰⵊⴷⵉⵔ

Ajdir— “the mountain” — pays homage to the high-altitude lands that protect and inspire. Its blend combines a deep Assam black tea, the warmth of cinnamon, the vigor of cardamomand ginger, the character of clove, and the rare light of saffron. It is a tea of gathering, an autumnal infusion made to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with one's roots.

Harvest anecdote

In Taliouine, it is said that eachsaffron thread carries the breath of three flowers. When a few threads are placed in a teapot, a whole field of memory is being infused.

A gesture to remember

Preparing Ajdir is like opening a gentle parenthesis in the modern rhythm. A cup that unites yesterday and today, home and loved ones, roots and the future. Because an infusion can be a legacy.
